As with all our kitchen table meetings this year (2006) my sister Lorraine attended in order to take notes and to help keep things on track and professional.
As discussed at our June 21st meeting, Mr. Sillito brought to this meeting rent review offers for Wells 1, 4, 5, and 6. I remember asking why he did not include rent reviews for Well 2 and Well 3, as discussed at the June meeting. His response indicated he forgot and he would have rent review offers for W2 and W3 forwarded to us asap.
More than six months had passed since we started paying better attention to the news coming from our neighbours about their problems with Encana's recent activities. The loudest concerns we heard at this time were related to water wells in the Rosebud and Redlands area. Good people we knew personally were claiming their water quality and/or quantity suddenly changed (for the worse) since Encana started drilling and fracking in their area. Our farm, and our water well were within a 10 mile radius of those 'contaminated' water wells. Encana was publicly denying that their activities had anything to do with this new rash of water well problems, citing bad water well construction or that the landowners weren't performing proper maintenance. This bullshit finger pointing at 'bad farmers' was the mantra taken up by industry, their supposed regulators AND Alberta Environment.
Because of Rollock's failure to report accurately the discussions he had with us in February and April, we felt it was in our best interest to get in writing that our current water well was functioning normally. Our thinking was that if something should go sideways with our water well, we would have somewhat of a baseline to prove it was working fine before Encana's drilling and fracking moved closer to our home.
